Nature detection skills - session 1

Sunday June 15 2025
10.00 AM - 1.00 PM
La Trobe University, Nangak Tamboree Wildlife Sanctuary La Trobe Ave, Bundoora VIC 3083
Cost: $200 (this is the total cost for three sessions including lunches and all course materials.)
Do you want to be that person who is always the first to see the Tawny Frogmouth camouflaged against the tree bark, the wallaby hiding in the bush, hear the soft call of an owl, see the goanna or dingo tracks in the sand, the glider markings on a tree or the beautiful tiny flower that everyone else has walked straight past?

Ecologist, Rob Richards and the team from It’s Naturally You is offering a first of a kind program that will significantly improve your sensory detection skills in the bush. The program includes three sessions. Each is a 3 hour session (30 min intro and 2.5 hour field based), where at each session you will gain new and progressively more advanced skills. You will be amazed at how much your nature detection skills have improved at the end of the three sessions.

We are currently running a visual detection skills course commencing on Sunday June 15 at La Trobe University, Nangak Tamboree Wildlife Sanctuary.

Once you book Session 1 we will accommodate your needs for dates for Sessions 2 and 3.

Lunch (hot or cold meal) is provided along with all your course material.

Places are strictly limited, so book before you miss out!

Is it time to do something for you? Come on a guided Forest Therapy Walk this Spring at Banyule Flats. Inspired by the Japanese Public Health Practice ‘Shinrinyoku’ (also known as ‘Forest Bathing’), Forest Therapy is an evidence-based approach where the restorative power of nature is harnessed to heal many ailments of modern life. Along with reported feelings of peacefulness and relaxation, research shows that Forest Therapy can improve sleep quality, boost the immune system, and reduce blood pressure.

We give you permission to slow down on this mindful wander amongst the River Red Gums. Your accredited Forest Therapy Guide will offer different ways for you to reconnect with your senses and immerse yourself in the present through the beautiful sights, sounds, smells, textures and tastes in nature.

Unlike a bushwalk, Forest Therapy is about the journey, not the destination. It is a slow, mindful and quiet way of being in nature. There will be a series of invitations to engage in, and some opportunities to share about the experience in small groups. It is best suited for people who are comfortable with periods of quiet time, moving slowly and interacting with a small group of people.

The walk is about one and a half kilometres in length on sealed and unsealed tracks and will finish with a Japanese-inspired Tea Ceremony with Australian Bush Tea and sweets.
